Twenty-four western Montana high school juniors and seniors attended MedStart: An Exploration of Health Careers, hosted on the UM campus, during the last week of June. Students toured Rocky Mountain Laboratories and Glaxo Smith Kline, job shadowed at 12 local healthcare facilities, attended sessions hosted by UM faculty, grad students and Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana residents, and experienced the joy of Hoagieville cheese fries and Osprey baseball.
The Rural Behavioral Health—Primary Care Collaborative is a program that integrates a prelicensed clinical social worker and postdoctorate psychology graduate into primary care rural health clinics. Currently, participating facilities include Northwest Community Health Center, in Libby, Deer Lodge Medical Center, and Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, in Glasgow.
